Just Energy, Alberta, offers green energy product options for the eco-conscious customer
Just Energy rates on supply also include options for its more eco-conscious customers. Just Energy gives them the opportunity to purchase plans that include green energy solutions, such as carbon offsets or renewable energy credits. Just Energy Alberta customers can purchase green energy product options for 60% or 100% of their energy usage. Electricity customers can purchase JustGreen Power, a program that allows customers to purchase up to 100% of their electricity usage in green energy to be added to the electricity grid. While the green energy itself isn't necessarily delivered to the customer's home or business, the renewable energy will contribute green energy to the overall electricity delivered in Alberta.
Because natural gas has no green substitute, Just Energy gas offers JustGreen Natural Gas, a program that gives customers the ability to purchase carbon offsets in green energy to balance out their carbon footprint and thus contribute less pollution through their natural gas usage. With a Just Energy JustGreen plan, customers can make up for all of their carbon usage without sacrificing their natural gas use.
Deregulation in Alberta gives consumers options
In the mid-1980s the Alberta natural gas market became deregulated. The Alberta electricity market followed suit in the mid-1990s when it also opened up to competition. Before deregulation, electricity and natural gas consumers were limited to purchasing their energy supply from the utility. While the utility may be reliable, it only offers supply at regulated rates. Supply rates such as these are determined by the Alberta Utilities Commission and fluctuate with the market value of the commodity. Thanks to deregulation, the energy market is now open to competition. Consumers have the option to shop around and find competitive energy prices that work for them.
